These collections contribute points for LEED and the Green Guide for Health Care.
What is LEED building? The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has developed the LEED system as a means of promoting
environmentally responsible building. Although the role of textiles in the LEED system is comparatively small, fabrics
can indeed contribute to achieving LEED certification.
|
|
|
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a voluntary, consensus-based rating or certification
system that aids in the development of high-performance, sustainable buildings. Introduced three years ago, LEED has already
spawned three new pilot rating systems: LEED CI (Commercial Interiors), LEED CS (Core and Shell) and LEED EB (Existing Buildings).
These programs join the original LEED, now referred to as LEED NC (New Construction).

Polyurethane (PU) vinyls: what makes it green? Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) needs heat stabilizer and plasticizer to make the product soft.
Plasticizers are typically a volatile compound that comes off over time. PVC is a polymerized resin, where some monomers can still stay,
which is not healthy. PVC emits dioxin when burned. Polyurethane does not need any plasticizer/stabilizer and does not emit any
toxic gas when burned. PU products are water based vinyls and therefore contain no volatile compounds.
|
|
|
J. Ennis Fabrics offers three collections which contain 100% polyurethane; the first, Novelties Exotic Eco-Friendly GREEN collection. Consisting of 50 sku's in four animal inspired
prints, it will bring the animal instinct to any room. No animals were harmed in the making of this fabric and no humans will be harmed using it.
Contains no volatile compounds. With Graffiti-Free protection most stains and ballpoint pen marks can be easily wiped out with a clean dry cloth.
