J. Ennis Eco-Friendly Fabrics

Crypton's latest technological advance is Crypton® GREEN. The first "Performance Fabrics" to be awarded a Silver MBDC Cradle-to-Cradle certification as well as a SCS Gold Indoor Advantage certification. Crypton® GREEN offers a truly responsible solution that exceeds industry standards for indoor air quality and optimized materials. Crypton® GREEN still offers superior durability, cleanability, odor resistance and liquid impermeability, but in a more environmentally friendly way. Crypton® GREEN is produced with chemical and raw material improvements to reduce &/or eliminate the presence of formaldehyde, PFOAs, & PBDEs.

J. Ennis Fabrics is proud to offer two Crypton® GREEN collections. The first Crypton® GREEN collection features 11 new exciting patterns in 74 sku's, all made from recycled polyester. Colors range from traditional to vibrant modern hues and shaded. Patterns feature soft chenille yarns in stripes and contemporary prints. Another Eco-friendly collection by J. Ennis Fabrics is our Performance Plus - Eco-Friendly Collection, which offer 10 innovative patterns in 76 sku's all made from recycled polyester. One of a kind look with patterns in large scale and small scale, tone on tone patterns which offer a more subtle look. Colors range from earthy greens and browns to bright fuchsia and currant.

Performance Plus - Eco-Friendly Collection is the first polyester produced and dyed with all environmentally safe ingredients, including a new catalyst that replaces the heavy metal antimony, which can be harmful to human and environmental health. It's also free of chlorine and PBTs (Persistent, Bioaccumulative and/or Toxic substances). Awarded Gold MBDC Cradle-to-Cradle certification attaining the highest possible water, energy and social responsibility standards. Uses optimized dyes and is non-toxic; in short, it's made with sustainable environmental practices.

These collections contribute points for LEED and the Green Guide for Health Care. What is LEED building? The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has developed the LEED system as a means of promoting environmentally responsible building. Although the role of textiles in the LEED system is comparatively small, fabrics can indeed contribute to achieving LEED certification.

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a voluntary, consensus-based rating or certification system that aids in the development of high-performance, sustainable buildings. Introduced three years ago, LEED has already spawned three new pilot rating systems: LEED CI (Commercial Interiors), LEED CS (Core and Shell) and LEED EB (Existing Buildings). These programs join the original LEED, now referred to as LEED NC (New Construction).

Polyurethane (PU) vinyls: what makes it green? Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) needs heat stabilizer and plasticizer to make the product soft. Plasticizers are typically a volatile compound that comes off over time. PVC is a polymerized resin, where some monomers can still stay, which is not healthy. PVC emits dioxin when burned. Polyurethane does not need any plasticizer/stabilizer and does not emit any toxic gas when burned. PU products are water based vinyls and therefore contain no volatile compounds.

J. Ennis Fabrics offers three collections which contain 100% polyurethane; the first, Novelties Exotic Eco-Friendly GREEN collection. Consisting of 50 sku's in four animal inspired prints, it will bring the animal instinct to any room. No animals were harmed in the making of this fabric and no humans will be harmed using it. Contains no volatile compounds. With Graffiti-Free protection most stains and ballpoint pen marks can be easily wiped out with a clean dry cloth.

Ultraleather™ GREEN collection is made from 100% polyurethane, engineered to meet the growing demand for strength and environmental responsibility. Formulated with a biodegradable rayon backcloth composed of wood bi-products. Luxurious simulated leather engineered for durability. Void of plasticizers, heavy metals, formaldehyde and pyroxylin. Void of persistent organic pollutants, captures and recycles 99% of production solvents. Certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certification for harmful substances and passes California Protocol 01350 for volatile organic compound emissions.

Brisa and Brisa Distressed 100% polyurethane is designed with a unique ventilation system that enables it to breathe. Formulated with a biodegradable rayon backcloth composed of wood bi-products.
